Just Open Your Eyes

Look at the media - movies, tv, newspapers, magazines

We reap what we sow (immorality), violence begets violence, etc.

I usually do not watch TV but when I injured myself, I started to watch TV when I wanted a break from reading. I was surprised by what I saw..... (at least on the internet we can control what we see.)

I like the lyrics from this song as it somewhat portrays how I feel. :-)

"Good People"

You win
It's your show, now
So what's it gonna be
'Cause people
Will tune in
How many train wrecks do we need to see?
Before we lose touch of
We thought this was low
It's bad getting worse so

[Chorus:]
Where'd all the good people go?
I've been changing channels
I don't see them on the TV shows
Where'd all the good people go?
We got heaps and heaps of what we sow

They got this and that and
With a rattle a tat
Testing one two,
Now what you gonna do?
Bad news, misused,
Got too much to lose
Gimme some truth
Now whose side are we on?
Whatever you say
Turn on the boob tube
I'm in the mood to obey
So lead me astray by the way, now

Where'd all the good people go?
I've been changing channels
I don't see them on the TV shows
Where'd all the good people go?
We got heaps and heaps of what we sow

Sitting round feeling far away
So far away but I can feel the debris
Can you feel it?
You interrupt me from a friendly conversation
To tell me how great its all gonna be
You might notice some hesitation
'Cause it's important to you, it's not important to me
Way down by the edge of your reasons
It's beginning to show
And all I really wanna know is...

Where'd all the good people go?
I've been changing channels
I don't see them on the TV shows
Where'd all the good people go?
We got heaps and heaps of what we sow

They got this and that
With a rattle a tat
Testing one, two
Now what you gonna do?
Bad news, misused, give me some truth
You got too much to lose
Whose side are we on today, anyway?
OK, whatever you say.
Wrong and resolute but in the mood to obey
Station to station desensitizing the nation
Going, going, gone.

Always welcome.

Yes, I see that, but is that the case-- when a family watches the news and says, "Oh boy! Another plane crash! Yay!"? (Yes I realize that sounds stupid. XD ) Humans are at the point now where we need to be connected-- especially if there is violence. My guess is that it makes those unaffected from the crash happy for what they have. Twisted, yes, but still. No one said anything about life being smooth, as I am sure you realize.

We CAN'T, without sinking ot the antagonists level, that is the reason why the good succeed. The good will do bad deeds in order to help others, but then realize what they've done-- and feel guilty about it. Realizing your mistakes are part of the process of being a better person, I suppose.

Ditto. It feels as if you are choking sometimes, doesn't it? Everyone also wants to see better people, but then they aren't trying to improve themselves at all. Everyone tries to have a positive view, though it does end up twisted. For example, my family wanted to get a cat but I really didin't want to get a cat, even though I acted like it was the best thing in the world to do. Not a very good example, but still, do you see the connections?

The wait is always the best part. So, you know, try to help others yourself, but don't try to get them to change. Because if they see you doing something good, they'll follow (eventually) and boom-- what do you know? One more person trying to help save the world.

I (kind of) find similarities in what I'm trying to say in the song 'Stand My Ground' by Within Temptation. But I'm only saying that because of the song posted up there. By the way, I haven't stopped humming that song! :)

Thank you for your comment! :-)

What I was trying to convey is that violence and immorality seem to be promoted and glamorous. Every story does need an antagonist - and in almost all the stories good wins over evil - but what about winning without sinking to the antagonists level? You are correct - it is not a solid foundation at all.

In my experience, I have seen more violence and iniquity than I would like. I would love to see more people helping each other out, instead of acting out what they have seen glamorized in media.

I am still waiting for it to get better......... :-)

Listen, I don't really know what to tell you. Yes, you may think human behavior is getting out of hand-- I'd have to slightly agree. But that is just it; every story needs an antagonist, does it not?

Yeah, many are becoming antagonists, but don't forget the good people, either. Because while many things seem to be going wrong, you are only adding to this by thinking only of the violent things. You may suppose that, "No, I'm not supporting it, I'm just saying that we keep idolizing it!" but really, how can we get to a proper ground without having shaky foundations to begin with?

Have you heard of one of those moments, supposedly after a disaster, or tragedy? Where humans WILL come together to help? It may be that many won't help-- but is everyone in this world violent? Well, duh. But does everyone act upon it? Not everyone.

I'm slightly disappointed in what people do nowadays, but progress is progress I suppose. Even if it is negative progress. You may not agree with me, but, hey, that is your opinion, and yours alone.

I like the song by the way. Jack Johnson is a favorite. Nice choice.

And as for where all the good people went-- they are still there. Only waiting for a point where they are needed.

It has to get harder for it to get better, doesn't it? :)
