Oh, to Live In a Small Town....

About ten years ago, it was a different story.  There were all kinds of local/family owned businesses, and a great variety at that.  As soon as the plans to build Wal-Mart had been approved, the death bells slowly began to ring.

Over the years, everything eventually went out of business.  They just couldn't compete with that bouncing rollback-inducing smiley of doom.  Wal-Mart killed them all.  If I had another affordable option, then I would gladly shop somewhere else.  Unfortunately, this is not the case.

I mean, sure.  It's great to go Friday night and see the entire town hanging out in the parking lot. (No, I'm not kidding.  Everyone between the ages of 14 and 30 is guaranteed to be there.  Unless it's football season.  Sad, I know.)

But I'd rather have all the little niche stores and coffee shops back, just the same.  Curse you Walmarta!  -shakes fist-

Ha. Your town sounds exactly like mine. It is sad. There is nothing for the young people to do. WalMart killed the small businesses in my town too.

Oh yes. What's sad is it's actually grown since then. LOL. You can always tell when school's on break or it's the weekend, because everyone's there. What makes me giggle is people get all dressed up just to hang out in the parking lot. That's something I'll never understand.
