But She Is My Best Friend

For many years my best friend has cancelled plans at the last minute.  It is so disappointing.  Once we were going to see my favourite band and she rang when I was about to get in the shower to get ready.  After a while I decided that I would only make plans with her that also included others so that even if she cancelled I would still get to go. Or I'd invite her along to something I was fine about going to on my own.  This went quite well for a while, until I organised a surprise for her with another friend and somehow she contacted that friend and then changed things with her and notified me at the last minute. Once we planned a plane trip for a girls' weekend away and stay in a nice hotel.  Next thing she's cancelled the plane ticket 'cos her husband was coming too and he wanted to drive there. Then cancelled the hotel and booked a different one. I cancelled altogether.  We have been friends for a long time and I don't want to stop being friends but I find this all hard to handle.  Sometimes she is really apologetic .Sometimes she double books and obviously prefers the other outing.

Have you tried talking to her about it? She would understand because of how close and what you mean to her.

Thank you for commenting on my story. Yes I have tried to talk to her, but she tends to see things from her point of view only. Occasionally I have been able to get my point of view across to her, but not often. I know that other friends have got as exasperated with her as I have. I am handling the situation by the ways I mentioned in my story. I don't think I will really be able to solve it.
