Thanks for the advice Prosimian. We do know what we are getting our selves in for with so many BC owners in our extended family - but that forum sounds like a good idea - all the help we can get, right?

I would naturally look to rescue first.

We are still some years off having enough space for this sort of dog so there is plenty of time to look at all our options and decide for definate that we can handle it!

Since you are familiar with Border Collies I wont warn you to expect a full on equal new family member instead of a dog. You know that. I won't insist you get a rescue, although I really wish I could have - just to have given a lost soul a home. I will recommend that you sign on to the free Border Collie Boards forum on the net. It got me through my first two years with Meg. Every BC is uniquely challenging, but the people on that Board have collectively seen it all. :)

I have two Border Collies.. My guy, his name is Jack, suffers from adhd, but my female Nibbles, is as calm as they come.. They are a wonderful breed.. Smart, sensitive, and full of tons of energy...

That IS a great name! It will be awhile til we are in a position to have a dog so I have heaps of time to think of the perfect name - if its this hard to name a dog, there is NO WAY Im going to able to come up with a name for any future children lol :D

My brother has female Border Collie named Rocket. I think that's a great name for a dog who's always running around; you can steal that name, I'll never tell....

Agreed - Max's parents have a lifestyle block and occasionally put a doz cows or some sheep on it, even though shes never been trained as such as still tries to herd em! I think agility training is the way to go. Max's brother (the new Dad) has two Border Collies and they have both of them at agility and it seems to be good for them. Great way for the owner to keep fit to!

Kiwi humour...self-deprecating, often sarcastic, usually a bit dry, not alot slapstick, lots of jokes about farming, Australians and immigrants....biggest characteristic is probably that we spend alot of time taking the **** out of ourselves... :)
