Best Way For BF To Send Me Money?

Hi ladies!

Do any of you have experience sending money back and forth from Afghanistan? My boyfriend, SG, and I are almost two months into a nine-month deployment, and I'm preparing his second care package to send next month. He knows about the package, and I asked him to give me a list of things he wants and/or needs, which I'll pack in the box along with the surprises and goodies I'm picking out by myself.

Well, when we talked tonight, he said he's almost done with his list, but that some of the things he wants, like special vitamins, protein powder, etc., are pretty pricey. Ordinarily that wouldn't be an issue, but, unfortunately, I was recently laid off and I'm living on savings and unemployment benefits while I look for a job. I certainly don't mind spending money on my man's care packages (and believe me, I do! ;) ), but, like the sweetheart he is, SG is insisting on paying for the expensive stuff, at the very least. 

So, I'm trying to figure out the best way for him to send me money. Has anyone done this before? He could just send me a check, but I have no idea how long that would take, or if it would even make it here at all. I also thought of maybe a wire transfer, but I have no idea how that works or what it costs or what company to use. Can anybody give me some insight? What's the best way for my boyfriend to send me money from a military base in Afghanistan?
