Son With A.s., Ocd and Adhd

I have a 12 year old son.  Genius IQ.  He was in public school and in the gifted program.  After four years of trying we finally got him an IEP (Individualized Educational Plan).  We decided if it didn't work we would pull him out to home school him.  Home school is working much better.  We are members of a large homeschool organization.  He attends classes outside the home one day a week.  He also swims two days a week with other homeschool kids.

He has also attended Social Skills classes.  This was nice because he was with boys like him.  It costs $800.00 for 14 weeks and our insurance refuses to pay.  We have done this three times now.

He was such a happy and very popular child, but when he started the fourth grade kids began to notice the differences.  He quickly became a target for bullies.

It breaks my heart to see this happen to him.  Kids can be so cruel.  There was something on the ABC news tonight about A.S.  It was very interesting.  I'm sure that you could go to abc.com to read the story.

Do you think you could give me some suggestions on how to homeschool a child with A.S. ?

It is so hard as moms to watch our children hurt.<br />
I homeschooled my daughter from K-10. We were able to deal with her severe learning disabilities much better. This year she is going to a traditional school for the first time. She is happy, fairly popular, a cheerleader, and best of all on the honor roll. I think often the needs of our special children can be better met at home. I do understand that not all people can do this. Hang in there and din't ever give up of your kid.
