Dilemma About Meeting Childhood Friend After 7 Years

When I was little, I had a friend named Hersh. I lived in Indiana at the time and we were best friends. Until my parents took me and my brother to India for a "better education", that is.

After that, our communication abruptly came to an end. Well, almost. We talked on the phone once a year, and even those calls became more and more awkward. We're only 14.

My family just moved to Florida 6 months ago. Things were still pretty awkward between me and Hersh when we talked last month.

Except my family's going to meet his at the Smoky Mountains this Christmas. I didn't want to seem like a jerk, so I agreed to it.

Things are not going to be like they were before, but my parents don't know that. They don't know about the awkwardness, or the fact I had a crush on him in 3rd grade, or the fact that we can't get past "How are you? What are you doing?" in a phone conversation and can only manage to exchange 3 sentences in 10 minutes because of the awkwardness.

I have no idea what to do...I was determined to forget him but my parents just won't let me!

I'm the kind of person who tries to start over their life whenever they move. My previous 3 "lives" didn't work though. I'm hoping this one will.
