He Keeps Breaking My House!

I took in a little mal-nourished puppy 2 years ago. He is a boxer pit bull mix named Dugan, and the vet said he was about a year old when I brought him in. He was very skinny and cried a lot when I first brought him home, and had a serious attachment thing going on. I blamed this for the fact that when I left the house he destroyed the door frame (about 4 inches of it just gone) and the floor in front of the door trying to get to me.

He still follows me around and starts crying when he sees me wearing shoes, but he hasn't tried to eat the house again in an effort to follow me to work so I thought that part was over. He still does other things because he has no idea how big he is or how strong he is. He runs into walls and tables and chairs and people, but none of it seems to phase he is just a very happy loving dog, with a strong protective streak where I am concerned.

This weekend however I think I may have had a heart attack! I was outside weeding in the garden and Dugan was out with me, he has a run that is connected to the house on one end and the garage on the other. Aparently the paperboy was comming up the drive and the dog decided this was not okay, he charged down the walkway to let the boy know this BOOM the lead pulled out of the house! It took a large section of wood (lead still attached) right off the house, pulled the screen door right off and tore some shingles down. Thank god the dog came back when I finally got my breath back enough to call him. I know he would not have bitten the kid but I'm sure he scared him.

I'm not sure what to do with this monster of a dog. I love him to death and he is really very lovable and sweet. The problem is he was abused before I got him so he really does not like men at first, there have only been a few he has been okay with right away, and he is scared of pretty much everything from keys to the sound of paper crackling so anything can set him off and running (usually away). I think if he wasn't so bullish and strong it wouldn't be a problem but with his strength he can do A LOT of damage.
