Nothing is as graceful or fast as a greyhound running full tilt. They are a force of nature and their turn of foot awesome. I see it every day as I let my four lads of the leash in a fenced in paddoc they are so amazingly fast that it takes my breath away. They are three ex-racing greyhounds and my one ten year old whippet. The weave patterns at full tilt when they feel like never forced to runif they don“t want to they can be as lazy as they please they are my deeply loved family members.I will never bet on the greyhounds and never visit a track again on the grounds of the cruelty and waste of young healthy greyhounds being put dow for a broken leg that could be fixed if the owner was willing to pay for it. It is sad that greed leaves no consideration for these gentle royal sighthounds.

I love to watch my 2 Rotties play and believe it or not the GIRL is the dominant one. She can run in full force where if ever she ran into two or so grown men she would knock them down like bowling pins. My male Rottie lets her run the show....when my hub throws a ball to her she dashes quickly to get it then runs forward....all the meanwhile the male is in stalking position and they do this "CLASH OF THE TITANS" thing so funny to watch...

    LOVE THEM SO MUCH

Recently I was lucky enough to spend a day at the beach. There were many super happy dogs there :) There was this pair of dogs that kept running after the same stick being thrown, but they each had their own approach. One would watch the human carefully and then run after the stick. The other one would just take off running in a random direction as soon as the stick was even picked up. Sometimes he lucked out and got the stick, sometimes his doggy pal did. It was hard to tell if he was actually doing this out of intelligence (maybe he was aware of his lack of speed compared to his doggy pal and knew he had no chance at the prized stick otherwise)....or maybe not :D

OT - yeah horses too although I am not sure I've seen them running flat out on their own. That would be interesting.

DMLA - cats are ok. In my experience, a big cat scratches but a little ***** never hurt anyone. ;-)

I too, love dogs. Love their grins. Love that funny sideways gait that some of them get when running really fast. But, I am wondering why a person must be either a dog person or a cat person. I love them all. And a lot of other animals too. Horses, WOW.

Running is exhilarating I think, whether you are a dog or a human--or anything with limbs that can propel itself across an open field. It is like all the energy in the body gets together and says--lets really focus here on self-propulsion just for the joy of it (not like running for your life though--that's no fun).

And yes, I do think that species pick up on this and often want to join in. I have seen baby fawns and bunnies and squirrels and even a fox once join in the fun, inter-species-wise. It is very cool.

@TG - yes they do join in don't they.

@Destry - i like the grinny face just a hair over the begging big-eye one.

@WIB - wow, thats cute. I saw a dog running with one of his back legs pulled up. I guess he thought it was holding him back.

@jokersmrs - we have a shitzsu that is hard to get moving but when she does, her eyes go to slits and all you see is her underbite grin and hair flowing backwards.

@DNA - yep. how can anyone be a cat person after playing with a dog?

At dog training class, we get to let the dogs loose for playtime. From the littlest ones to my big floppy footed golden retriever monster, all are tearing around with the biggest grins. The owners grins though are even bigger.

yes, it's great to see them so full of joy ... my dog does a little skip when he jumps over things ... like a gazelle with both his legs turning to the side ... it's very cute to watch.
