This Is It

Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a ******* big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of ******* fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the **** you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing ******* junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, ******* your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, ******-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life . . . But why would I want to do a thing like that? -Irvine Welsh

I'm not a pessimist, but does any of all this normal stuff really matter? Does it have any value outside of its normality? Everyone wants a normal, predictable life and then they wonder why they feel unfulfilled. Then they go back to the hollow satisfaction of consumerism because it's never the right time to actually do something with your life. I am never going to rely on a credit card to make me happy any more than I would rely on Welsh's writing.

I found acid house pretty hard to follow...I'll admit that I've been known to blast that Trainspotting soundtrack, what was that mad tune, get slippy?it's been awhile.the quote is good food for thought, btw.

Sick boy, yah he was great!
I think I've seen part of Acid House.

Yup, that movie's based on the Irvine Welsh novel of the same name. I like that movie an I love the soundtrack. It's a great book, too.
I thought Welsh had a great way of laying down a philosophy, I just left out the part about choosing heroin over everything else!
