I put in more detail the circumstances in another spot... Just wanted to explain our good night ritual. Little B is a very loving and over all exceptionally well adjusted child.
At night I started telling Little B, I loved him "like" a son. I am very careful not to try and confuse him with words. I am technically his Uncle Jimmie. So after a while on his own he started questioning roles and now he will tell me at night I love you to "like" a dad, once in a while, he gets the biggest smile and says I love you too dad.
Little B has a lot more contact now with his bio mom but beyond a quick love you he really has no attachment to her yet. He never asks about her or anything. So I try to give him as much stability as possible.
I hope others get the joy of love from a child.
