I Am So Lucky!

Every day I ask myself, “how did I get so lucky?”  All I can think is that prayers are answered even though the prayer has given up hope for that miracle.  It does take some effort on both parties part as well. I believe that if he and I had not met at the right times in our lives we never would have the special relationship that we share.

Today I was thinking about what I had done differently with him compared to those failed relationships in my past. It came down to a bottom line of being brutally honest with myself about what my needs, desires and wants were and being that honest to him about those things as well; and even more important, asking for that same honesty in return. I know, for example, that it irritates the hell out of him when I flirt too much with other men so I am trying to improve myself there.  He knows I will fight to the bitter end against any competition for his heart.  Flirt with him all you will but I know where his heart is as it is in my hand at all times.  Sharing the same needs, desires and wants are important. In prior relationships I looked past my needs to the needs of another, compromised on desires and wants, and that doomed things. I know what is expected of me and he knows what is expected of him and that makes us one against the world. 

I think many women are so quick to commit that they look past those things which are necessary for themselves to be happy. Many are locked into that idea that they can "remake him" or "mold him" or perhaps "groom him" into what she wants, which is just not reality. Who would ever like the idea that they are seen as a "fixer-upper?" I know I was in that position in a relationship and it broke my heart when I found out I was basically the “starter wife.”  I know some of my guy friends have this list of “demands” for their perfect girl.  I am telling them that they are not going to find a girl with all their qualities as it is just nor realistic but they are still looking.  I am not sure if my guy had such a list, and I know neither one of us is “perfect” but I do know that he is perfect for me.   

I share my deepest secrets with him.  Knowing that we have shared our deepest desires, wants, and needs is such a turn on. I know what he wants. There is no guessing, no second guessing; and of course he knows mine. Honesty is so important in a relationship. Without it what do you have?

He is my best friend. I know that I can bounce ideas off him without him thinking I am stupid.  I know he will give me his honest opinion whether it is what I want to hear or not. I cannot think of a single thing I cannot talk to him about. Of course I know a few things he'd like me to keep to myself and I do  You girls know what I am talking about and most you guys do too.  Oh and when I am talking about vaginas I have to call them something else or he cringes.  He just hates that word. LOL.

Today in church the sermon was about marriage and commitment.  It made me think about what commitment really is.  I think too many are simply looking for a backdoor of escape.  I know that the only way I am going out the backdoor is if he is leading me and I know that he feels the same.   I have a man that loves me so much he will fight to make this work if there is ever an issue and I will do the same for him. That must be what real commitment feels like. At least that is what I feel commitment means for me.  Knowing that, it makes me warm all over.  I am so blessed.  Although he will tell you he is the lucky one I know the truth.  I am the luckiest girl in the world.
