I Have a Job
Ok, this is a continuation from my first story - I have a job.
First of all, for those of you who said a prayer for me regarding the interview I had, I give you all a big warm ((((HUG))))! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
Even through all the prayers and hopes that I had, I did not get the position. I lost out to a 20 year old girl who is also a temp there. I should've known that I didn't stand a chance, since she had a nameplate on her desk when I walked in there my first day.
I went throught the interveiw - and I did a good job - as I had been studying behavioral interview questions pretty much nightly for a week before. Thank-you again Mr. Optimistic! You are certainly the BEST!!!
Anyway, I went through the interview - and asked them when they would make a decision by. She told me Friday. So Friday comes - and lunch time comes. No response yet. About 3pm I went to her with my time card to be signed. She said I must be anxious wondering and asked me to wait for a minute. She then called me into an empty office.
She asked me how I found things so far. I told her I enjoyed working here and that I found that everyone was nice and friendly. I told her that I felt a bit of bonding between me and some of the other girls. She smiled and said that was great!
She then asked me if I felt comfortable on reception. I told her yes. It was not a problem at all. Now, I have to interject here and tell you that you have to enter this company as a Plant Clerk 1 - which is reception. So after she asked me how I felt about reception, immediately I thought I had the job! NOT! She said I didn't have enough experience on reception. However, I have been working in offices for 29 years... this other girl is only 20 years old! I have had plenty of experience on reception - it was never brought up in the interview. And they never put me on reception... so I don't get it.
I told her I had been praying all week about this - and that everyone I knew was praying for me also. Her comment was to keep praying. Not this time, but it could happen. Now, SHE was the one who called ME for the temp job - and then asked me to register with the temp agency. And SHE was the one who asked me to interview for the permanent position. So, I am, at this point, a little bewildered.
Five minutes after the bomb dropped on me, she emails me and asks me to cover reception for the 20 yr old who got the position as she has to go on some training course. So, the way I see it, I'm good enough to look after reception when they NEED someone there, but not good enough to be permanent. I felt like I had been kicked in the stomach....but hey, I guess that is the life of hard knocks....
