March 5, 2007 a Day That Changed My Family's Life

This is all new to my family and me because Breast Cancer does not in my family.

I am a senior in High School getting ready to move out of state for college. At the beginning of the year I was going to a boarding school in Florida. Around Christmas break I called my parents and told them I wanted to come home for the rest of the school year. I had a feeling inside that something just wasn't right and I needed to be home. So I started and online school that is connected with the boarding school I was attending before. My mom had not gotten her Mammogram and so I pushed her to get one because she had lumps in her right breast. She got one the first full week in March and 2 days later she was in getting a biopsy done. We pretty much knew and on Monday March 5, 2007 my mom was officially diagnosed with Breast Cancer over the phone. I thought it would nearly kill my dad. The next Wednesday my mom was being prepped to have her mastectomy on her right breast. We were lucky that everything went well and she was able to come home the next day. My mom has been very strong. She will be starting chemo with in the next few weeks.

Life hasn’t been easy since. I have had a hard time concentrating on school and homework. My dad has been through a lot with my mom because he loves her so much that this is really hurting him but he has been a sport. My brother is just kind of going through it; I don’t think it has fazed him a lot.

Well this is my story so far. Thank you for reading.
