Another "Milestone"

we finally had to put a port in my daughter. i was hoping that we would be able to use it for blood draws and iv access, but it is positioned in such a way that the catheter is against the vein wall and drawing blood could draw the wall as well and potentially rupture the vein. fortunately, we are able to use it for iv access.

i was hoping that things wouldn't come to this, but i couldn't put her through another winter like we had last year, where we were in and out of the hospital every other month or sometimes monthly, and get continously poked for blood and ivs. she is a notoriously hard stick and 7 or 8 tries is not unusual for her.

i having very mixed feelings about this and i'm disappointed that we weren't able to accomplish all my goals with placing the port, but i will take having guaranteed iv access.
