I Have a Strong Faith In God
A few months ago, my faith was definitely shaky. I wasn't sure what to think or believe about God and I was rather upset about everything. In short, everything worked itself out and my faith is strong and effective again. I always like to show little signs that I have a Christian faith. I wear clothes that show my high school on it (I attend an all-girl's Catholic high school), and I always wear a cross necklace and a Kairos cross necklace. Always.
Today, I had to work a long shift. I work at a bakery, and everyone who comes in is usually friendly and kind. However, I have a low patience when it's 6:00 p.m. and we were supposed to be closed at 5:30. However, I never let it show and I still attempt to have a positive and perky attitude. This scenario occurred today. I was a little frustrated that it was 5:30 and we still had groups of people waiting to place orders. However, I plastered a smile on my face and quickly worked. On my last customer, the woman I waited on was kind and personable; more so than others that I had dealt with that day. She smiled and laughed at all the comments I made about the yummy pastries we have. As I was walking to the register, I looked at my customer, and I saw her squinting at my necklace. I looked down and lifted it up and said, "I wear it all the time."
She looked up at me, smiled, and nodded.
"Would you like anything else?" I asked.
"Yes, there is one other thing I forgot to ask you about," my customer said.
I again forced a fake smile and grew a little annoyed.
''Awesome. There's no way it's going to fit in the box. I'll have to get a new one." I thought to myself.
My customer bit her lip and looked at me. I smiled even wider to let her know I was okay with what she was about to ask me, even though I was really aggravated.
''Will you say a little prayer for me?" She asked.
My eyes grew wide and I opened my mouth, however, I quickly recovered and said, "Yes, of course!"
She gave me a warm smile and said, "Thank you. I won't tell you what it's about; the Big Guy will know."
I chuckled along with her and said, "I'll ask God to be with the nice woman in the yellow shirt."
She looked at me and said, "It's Glenda."
So, I finally rang her up, and after she paid, I handed her the box of pastries. I then told her my name, and she had a huge smile.
"Ah, Mary. That's an easy name!" She said.
I laughed and nodded my head.
"I hope everything gets better for you," I said to my customer.
She smiled at me and said with great confidence, "I know it will."
As I think about this event, I realize that God put me in this spot for a reason. He knows that I have a relatively strong faith and that I really enjoy helping others. He knew that I was fit for the job, and that I would do this to an exceptional level. Today, I realized that God really does put us in places for certain reasons. Sometimes, it sucks, and sometimes, it might feel pointless or even worse, but he knows what he's doing. As I come to a close, I ask you to please pray for my customer.
In the great words of Glenda, "The Big Guy will know."
