My Mom she is physically beautiful with legs to shake Betty Grable off her seat. She isn't well educated and she can't see. Well she see's but it only peripheral small pea like vision from the sides of her eyes and is slightly crossed eyed. She can't read with out help or write. Well she writes but it a real task for her so the few letters or cards I have from her are all special to me. She can make you laugh quite by accident at the least expected times and her views of the world a lot diffrent than most people. She is so loving and so caring and I enjoy hearing Mom's voice.she does a character flaw but which of us doesn't she fibs. Nothing to hurt anyone just to attract attention to herself she learned this as a little girl of a family of 8. Sometimes we have a hardtime telling if it is the truth. I have learned to hear her so I know when its the truth. Her hearing is failing now in her old age but it used to be so keen she could hear a pin drop from another room. She always had eyes in the back of her head. LOl Catching us with all our mischief. Sometimes she made the mischief for us.
She bicycles and plays bingo and goes gambling and has a glass of wine now thats something new she never was a big drinker. Only new Years a glass of champagne. She wears a lot of rings on her fingers diamonds and isn't wealthy but if she were or my what mischief she would get into.
she always said God didn't give her good eyes cause he knows her to good and she would get into alot of trouble.
Mom can't come and stay for very long as she gets bored or will clean and do laundry til she drops if at my sis house. She has an opinion about everything and always said don't be afraid to speak up. I was so shy when I was young and scared easily.
When I was young I was MOms eyes. I hated returning anything with her she would raise cane she was just sure people we taking advantage of her. Most people don;t realize Mom is impaired. They think she is stuck up. She haws never used a cane or dog which she should have. Though she steps very firm in a world that is pretty dark. it is funny though what she can focus on sometimes seeing a spot that you missed because her little vision caught that. She can smell dust or could .
Moms language is funny seems she has always had some sort of hearing prob;lem and never remembers a name and makes up names for people.
The word used to news to Mom thats the word she uses for used.
She is sexy and likes to talk about clothes and makeup ect. Recently she is talking politics and listening to the news!
Last night I got a scare she called at 2am she is usually in bed though you can't count on it as other people take Mom every where sometimes she has to hide from them to rest. She can say I want to go someplace and a large group of will gather to go as you never know what will happen when she is around, For instance my Sister took her to the try outs at the Indy 500 she ended up unside down in Mario Andretti race car when she talked to him said you want to try it out and she got in not very gracefully they took her to the gas alley and had a great time. My Sis was embrassed but Mom had a great time.
My whole family loves to dance Mom aint got no rythm Lol But she likes dancing. My Brother and I like dancing so much we go together just to dance sometimes been awhile now since I moved away. But we took Mom to Ebor City in Tampa and we went to Cyote Ugly and few other places. Any there are bras hanging from the refters there and the girls get up on the bar and dance. We were sitting at a table I went to the bathroom and returned to find Mom up on the bar (not drunk ) dancing she heard the noise went to investigate thought it looked like fun and with assistance got up there danced and after that they gave her a tshirt and roses took her picture and lots of young people thought she was so cool they followed us all night she had a following and others who wanted to dance with MOm. It was afun night and Mom loved it. So did my Bro and I.
A few things about my gutsey Mom that I want to relay that happend in her life time and when I was a young girl. Mom divorced My Dad and she was right as he was unfaithful to her.
Dad did hot rods like no one else he could chop them up paint them soup em up to where you wanted to go for a ride cause the cars were cool. People paid Dad to fin them up and paint them. Dad like the ladies and he was always challenging my hot tempered Mama with his antics. Pull up at a stop light honk at another woman and it was on then. LOl Mom would get out and walk. He would have to beg her to get in the car. She would walk and Men would honk and whistle what a pair.
Once we went on vacation and he was speeding a cop drove up beside us and with a mega phone said slow down. He passed us and hid a few miles up the road and as he was out of sight Dad again sped up he got tagged. When the policeman pulled Dad over and came up to the window Mom instantly said " Officer we did not hear you say slow down" The policeman laughed so hard he let Dad off the ticket.
My Grandmother and Uncle who was 14 at the time came to live with us while my step grandfather was a way. My Dad gave my Uncle the job of feeding the furnace a coal furnace. Grandma was afraid of Him feeding the furnace as so it was on the. My young Uncel taught us all the meaning of don't call wolf. Every morning he would run the stairs and say I am on fire always a earth shaking scream to make it real. Then Grandma would repremand him and he would do it again. This went on for several weeks. One morning the fire was nearly out and getting the coals started was a tougher job than it had been so my Uncle through gasoline on the fire it flamed back and caught his pajamas on fire and he ran up the stairs with a earth shaking scream! Grandma thought I will teach him a lesson and locked the door. When she realized he really was on fire she opend the door and he ran out on fire. She started pating him out only to catch her silk quilted robe on fire and she was on fire. They ran through the house and as our bedroom was in the path they ran through on fire screaming I was laying in my bed and woke to see them on fire, Out of the bedroom ran my Mom. Her actions quick as lightening jerked the sheets off my bed and put them out. Grandma returned homes bandaged and my Uncle was in the hospital for along time, When he returned he never again wore short sleeves and his hair was starting to grow back his neck and chest we burned severely.
Mom had saved her brother and her Mom and she only broke down to cry after she returned home and found out how bad her brothers burns had been.
Mom was hero another time. Mom had a boyfriend a Dr. she loved him dearly and they had plans to marry. Every Wednesday when his office hours were long, when she got off work she would go to Ponderosa and get him a steak dinner and bring it to him. His office was always full he never had a nurse and never took appointment you came and waited until it was your turn, He also did house calls. Anyway on one Wednesday Ponderosa was being robbved when Mom stepped in the back door she was unaware of the situation and got to the front counter where a gunman told her to give him her purse and rings. No way would she give that up. She reached into her purse and pulled out a gun and said I will shoot you dead if you don't drop that gun and I know how to use this gun you ought to be ashamed of yourself doing this and he dropped the gun. Mom got free steaks forever for that.
Mom bowled and she was a beautiful sight on roller skates and ice saktes. When Mom and Dad roller skated they looked like dancers at a ball.
After they split Mom went to ice skating. She would go and walk there as she walked every where. One night she fell and walked all the way home by the time she got home her knee was so swollen it barely looked like a knee. I said we need to take you to the hospital she would not go an insisted it would be better by morning. Uh huh in the middle of the night cried for me to drive her to the hospital a cast was put on and she hated it. It messed up her look. She wore hot pants during the day and always dressed to the 9's and this would not do as soon as her knew felt a little better she cut it off with a electric carving knife scares me to think about to this day.
As little girls Mom always got us nice clothes and tried to keep us up to date never wore handy downs. Easter dresses were a must and she always got us one of the newest thing out. That newest thing out included a dress that came with it's own blow up slip. Don't know if you ever experienced this but its something to reckon with as a 8 yrs old. When you sit down it stays up like one of those souther bell hoops. I had to let the air out of mine. My Sis took a diffrent route and up shorts one and played like it was normal to have your dress top up at you chin. Then there was the new leathe coats or what seemed like leather they were pretty light blue hooded dress coats for winter Mom always dressed my Sis and my self alike we were not twin but I did not grow alot for ahile and we look a like for awhile except my Sis has these wonderful bue eyes that are round and draw you in to them while I have almond green and now need to wear gl;***** which I found out when I was 14yrs. old. Anyway back to the coats they were warm and beautiful until the really cold hit. We would walk home arms out as they hardened up like rock making us look like mummy armed and then the plastic cracked and they looked awful.
On Moms day off she would take us to the movies. We had to walk all the way downtown the best theater she knew of. We walked at least 5 or 6 miles never really measured it but have driven it since and it was along way driving. We would walk to save the bus money so we could have treats from the Morrow Nut house. Then walk home. We saw gypsies in the windows and walked a fast pace lots of honks and we were never to look gypsies in the eyes according to Mom they might put a hex on us. How much further was a every block question until we would see the circle at downtown Indpls.
Mom always took us to see the display windown in downtown Indpls. Where we would give her ideas of what we wanted for Christmas. She never hid things every far or very good for Christmas we always found it.
Mom worked as a hospice care nurse and always worked taking care of Dr's parents she never had a hard time finding a job and was always in demand her work was loving care and they all wanted that for their parents. MOm also had a day care business when we were teenagers she felt the need to always be home so we would not get into mischief. And we did need her there.
Mom had a close call though while working at nursing home she met up with Jim Jones and she luckily was not impressed she always said there is something wrong with that man. Mom was the caretaker of RC Cola founders son in law and she was friends with alot of powerful people.
Attorney's and judges and when Nicaragua had its earthquake she was the friends with the genrals and vice president .
Funny everyone came for cookouts in her little apartment townhouse for burgers and noone ever complained that they weren't any good. they loved to laugh and Mom can make you laugh and she doesn't even know what she said to make you laugh.
There is no one like her and I thank God for My MOM.
Since my Sis my Brother and I are all three years apart and our Birthday go in birth line Januarary February and March. I was always expected more of and wandering around outside well I just didn't I was in charge of the house my Sister and Brother. I did the cooking since I was 8yrs old when Dad put me up to the stove and said here is cook book if you want to gain weight and eat better you had better learn to cook as it is not something Mom can do. And so I did. Examples of Moms cooking is cook lettuce lima bean sandwiches and don't ask for oatmeal or scrambled eggs. Funnyt though Mom could make fudge and Turkey it took a while for her learn to make it though. Her first turkey was cooked with everything in the bag on the inside and well done. Meat was always over done and very chewy leather like but she always tried.
Mom is in Florida and I was there until I had to come back to Ohio to help my children. After my Step Father died a wonderful man I shall write about late she wanted to be near her family two brothers and sister lived in Tampa and so we moved them there. Last night or this morning Mom called she was scared a storm hit and blew out her bedroom window and some of the roof she was scared. I always sleep with my phone so I can hear if Mom calls she needed a calm voice last night I directed her to the bathroom and said stay there until it is over. Mom called the neighbors and said the storm is tearing up everything but they all said she was dreaming as they were all sleeping through the storm . She called me again I said Mom since the window is broken on the other side of the bed and it will be hard for you to see to pick it get in bed away from the window sleep until it is light and they call our friend and she will help you clean it up. Mom said since no one will believe me to nite I will just back to bed and wait until morning. Come morning the carport roof and half of her roof was blown off trees were up rooted and a real mess. The neighbors were astonished at the damage. The news people came out and interviewed MOm she said I try to tell everyone noone would believe me so I said the hell with it and went back to bed. Yes on tv she said that. This morning she is fine, house needs some repair but it was another storm Mom weathered all by herself.
Mom so many funny things I can think of Like she was with a friend and they were coming back from Sarasota and stopped at a light and paper was blowing all over the car. Mom could see the debris but it was not debris it was money her friend jumped out of the car and started grabbing and Mom wanted to get out but since it was a busy road she was told by her friend don't get out you could get hurt there are so many cars. Mom said I can grab and run faster than you can I just can't see it as well. Her pea like vision doesn't slow her down and she never takes it as a handicapp until it pushed in her face.
Mom is a real hero to me and I love her very much.
