Hello, my name is Denise and I'm 44. I have had regular periods LIKE CLOCK WORK until the fall of 2011 (a year and a half ago as it's currently February 2013). That being said, all of a sudden I had gotten my October 2011 period and suddenly had a 'panic attack' (which I've never had in my entire life). That was the worst experience I had ever had and I had no clue where or why it came from or how it happened! Then I went on to miss November 2011 and December 2011 periods. I thought ... very strange ... but no chance of pregnancy because my husband had had a vasectomy in July of 2010 so I figured ... ok well one of two things - I "AM" pregnant because the vasectomy didn't work or I'm beginning menopause (or peri-menopause) ... then in January 2012 I got SLAMMED with a 3 week heavy period. Ok, well not pregnant and not menapause ....
So Feb, March, May, June and July 2012 - all normal periods - until August 2012 - then NO period and then September 2012 NO period (it returned in October 2012) - then it all started in November 2012 with the NON-STOP period which continues to this day in February 2013. (Going into the 4th month).
When I saw the DR in December 2011 (when this all first started) - she gave me a pelvic and trans-vaginal ultrasound, took a uterine biopsy and said all was fine - wanted to put me on birth control (for the next 10 years to get me through menapause) and I declined.
So when I went to see her a few weeks ago, (with the continuous bleeding and my yearly check up) - she said she wanted a pelvic MRI because she felt my uterus was slightly enlarged and thought it could be Adenomyosis.
*BINGO* - Adeonomyosis it is .. she also said Birth Control will not help and could make it worse so hysterectomy was the answer. But she wants to leave in tact my ovaries and cervix since I've never had issues with them.
She feels it's a 'quality of life' decision - WHO WANTS TO BLEED FOREVER ? Well not forever - but "until menopause" - (whenever that decides to arrive) .....
My surgery is scheduled for April 8, 2013 and I'm wondering - (at that time) it will be 6 months (and the bleeding is very heavy and clotty very like the definition of adenomyosis - except I really dont have any pain at all ....) - I'm wondering if I should "skip" surgery and just let this 'go away' when I reach and go through menopause - but who has a crystal ball handy ???
I dont want to be 'down' for weeks with a surgery recovery and I DO NOT want the robotic surgery because of the upper abs scars and the complications that sometimes arise from that ... (I currently have a hip to hip tummy tuck scar so an abdominal scar doesnt bother me). My babies (2) were both born vaginally so I do want to keep my cervix to hopefully help my bladder not prolapsing somewhere down the line .....
Does anyone have a similar story or any advice ??? Very sick of bleeding ... but have honestly gotten used to it now ....
Thank you for listening !!! :)
