I Need Help!! I Love Him But Hate His Disease!

M y boyfriend and I have been together for almost two years and living together for one.  When we started dating we both drank a lot together.  We have both had traumatic experiences in our past and I have never been able to open up about them with anyone before him.  He has had a very rough life filled with abuse and neglect.  He is a very loving, wonderful and respectful person.  And he can often be very charming, cute and funny when he drinks...

The problem lies in the fact that happy drunk side of him is there at the onset of a binge.  Many people go out and enjoy drinking and have this experience.  The difference is other people sober up afterwards.  He will just continue to drink until an ugly side emerges.  He then becomes very distrusting, sometimes mean and completely disregards me. 

I believe I was in denial for a long time.  I knew he was an alcoholic but I didn't want to admit it.  I realize that I was being an enabler.  I need help!!! I love him but I don't want to throw my life away.  I can't decide to stay or to leave him.  My best friend has told me she will not remain friends with me if I don't leave.  Which means I have no one to talk to about how seriously this is affecting me.   I've talked to him about moving out just to give me some sanity but he says we are through if I move out.  I feel like I'm giving my life up either way.  Because of his past I also fear how leaving him could hurt him.  We are basically eachother's support network financially, emotionally and spiritually. HELP!!!
