I Was Told Last Year I May Have Ra.

Last year my hands got so swollen and painful that I couldn't move them in the mornings, and my doctor told me it was probably rhumetoid arthritis. But I'm afraid of needles and I never went and got my blood test. I really am that afraid. But today my hands are swollen and weak, and it always makes me wonder if I have it. Is there any reason to find out for sure, any treatment besides pain killers? Any early treatments that slow it down. It's never gotten as bad as it did last year, but I'm much more careful about how I use my hands now. It's frustrating when my fingers swell and I can't get my ring off, when they're still and I can't grasp anything strongly.

I am 57 yrs old and was diagnosed with Ra in march 2010. Both hands and elbows and shoulders swell up and hurt so bad I cant move. I took Prendisone and Methotrexate, weaned off prendisone , still taking Methotrexate once a week and now I'm in remission. September 2010 I now have warthins tumors on both paratid glands and nodules on my thyroid. Will have surgery on left paratid glands in couple weeks. Ra is a serious chronic autoimmune desiase that needs attention right away. Good luck with your health.
