I Have Been The Victim Of Identity Theft And Id Fraud
Some really smart criminal is getting away with half a million dollars and still counting using my identity and the identities of at least a dozen people in my neighborhood. In my case he simply stole my credit card numbers and faked them on cards apparently. In other cases he stole social security numbers and took out loans, lines of credit and in one case, satellite tv service to a fake address. He was stealing the equipment they sent him. He was dumb enough to have his picture taken at an eyeglass shop. At that one when they fit you for glasses they snap a picture of your face from the mouth up. So we have a picture of his nose, eyes, ears, part of his mouth and it's enough detail to tell he really should be getting facials more often. You'd think with a half million from our neighborhood alone he could afford to take better care of his skin.
One bank told me they are investigating 45 open identity fraud cases in my zip code. That is a lot!
There seems to be an issue with the post office. Packages are saying they are being delivered on say Monday on their online system but then they arrive on Thursday with two layers of tape on them and looking like they were ransacked. This only happens to USPS packages, not Fedex, UPS or DHL. Those arrive and are sitting outside the door when one of us gets home.
Gift cards in holiday greeting cards that were mailed out never arrived to the recipient. We've counted three cases of that.
The post office gave each of us new locked mailboxes recently, out of the blue.
When I asked to speak to a postal inspector or a supervisor at the post office sorting facility near us that handles our mail, I was told there is not one on-site.
The stolen credit cards are usually used/tested first at the gas station across the street from said post office before they are taken elsewhere.
Our postal carrier Zeke has been around for 30 years. I don't think it's him. Maybe someone who subs for him one day a week though. Or maybe someone in the sorting facility. A man I am involved with who is knowledgeable about these kinds of things thinks it's clearly an issue there. So I took out a PO Box at a different post office for all my sensitive mail. I am learning that you can never be too careful.
