The Typical And The Unexpected

France was an interesting place, and although we did much of the typical stuff when we got there, there were also unexpected moments and experiences that made visiting France a great time!

We arrived in Paris, of course, and saw all of the typical places you might expect....the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame, Les Invalides and Place de la Concorde. We ate baguettes, cheeses, crepes and sipped wine, walked along the Seine. Our visit to Paris was everything typical that you might expect it to be. To be honest, it was rather underwhelming. I suppose that Paris can be made to be something larger in your mind through the movies and such, and when I arrived it was, well.....just Paris. Beautiful, but not what I had anticipated in my mind.

The most memorable thing that we happened upon, was the underpass where Princess Diana and her partner Dodi Fayed were killed just two years earlier. We didn't search for it, we merely found it. Upon the balustrades were messages written by people from all over the world to Diana and Dodi. It was an emotional moment to know that we had found this almost seemed sacred.

We also spent time in the French Riviera, in Nice, Cannes and St Raphael. We spent a few days being lazy on the beach, after a few weeks of being busy tourists. My sister and I took the opportunity to go parasailing off the coast in Nice, it was so much fun! And we ate so well there, eating more baguettes and cheese, and tasting succulent seafood! While in Cannes, I spent time on the beach alone, and took the opportunity to join in on the topless beach experience! Now I'm quite shy by nature, so this was a big step for me! But it was quite exhilarating to spend an hour there topless! I couldn't do it in the presence of my sister and brother, but to be alone for a little while allowed me to be free for a little while! Loved it!

While we went to some very typical places in France, it was beautiful and I enjoyed it....but it was the unexpected things that made the trip so memorable!
