What Should I Do?
Posted July 6th, 2011 at 12:51PM
Our divorced has been recently finalized and the money I was left with will not last me very long. I need to get a job, but here is the problem - I haven't used my University degree because we got married after we graduated and I thought I would be living the dream. Life has a funny way of teaching us lessons, and I soon realized that I had to be in a state of conscious sleep in order to believe it was true. I have done some not-for-profit work and worked within volunteer organizations, but other than that, I haven't had a job since working part time in high school. I don't even know what to put on my resume or how to apply to any of these online job applications, because it asks about my current skills, and what they entail.
How would someone fill that out if they don't have a current job or even a previous job that is relevant?
I am stuck, does anyone know other people in this situation and how they were able to get a job? Also can someone point me in the right direction of any job forums or resources with more information?
Where should I start? I need assistance if anyone is out there who can help.

Do you sew, weave, write, take care of kids? Can you manage a web site, help people with Word or their new computer? Find something you are good at and put up posters put adds on craigslist etc. I knew a guy that charged 150 and hour to tutor JR college computer students at their home.
My wife can get $25 to $50 and hour to baby sit for a few hours so the parents can have some time at home by themselves. Do not fall for a work out of home job, Too many are fraud. The stuff envelops and shipping home jobs are usually money laundering. So just find a local job and company.
Can you design window coverings, do interior decorating, landscaping, gardening ? Start a business, just word of mouth first and do not charge much while you learn. Eventually you will need licenses, some states require contractors license for those.
If you are in a depressed area you might have to move. But find a job in that area first.
Good luck. -
I'm just going to come out and say it. Since you're a woman your chances of starting a new career at your age are much better than a man at your age. I have found the bias to be totally in favor of woman in this country. This holds true especially in the world of Public Relations or Non-Profit organizations. There are many online forums that are dedicated for unemployed woman. You should look into it! Just do a search on Google! You will find a lot! I know there is a woman in my area who's TV show is dedicated to woman and their careers. Also on Facebook there are many resources.

If you were married for such a long time and your ex husband is working, aren't you entitled to maintenance???
