I dont know what to say or feel right now.
After the tragic shooting in conn. yesterday I have been heart broken and lost. I read in an article just a few moments ago that the police dont know of any motive of the shooter but from talking to family members they suspect that he had a personality disorder... I know there are various personality disorders but I fear that this is just going to bring more stigma and less knowledge....They said he was very thin and "goth". WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING?!?!?!?! I am disgusted with everything and everybody. I dont get it. I dont want to be a part of this world anymore.

I totally see where you're coming from. It seems like whenever somebody commits murder/manslaughter - whatever you want to call it, they're saying they have a personality disorder or some other mental illness. It definitely tars us all with the same brush, which just strengthens the stigma, as you said!

I've read a few articles and newspaper reports about this tragic event, and although the man who perpertrated the crimes was awful, he must also have been very sick and in need of help. I don't see what him being "skinny", "one of the goths" and "a genius" has to do with anything though either! I'm sure I read one article were that description was used as a criminal profile for him! It's ridiculous.

I'm just waiting for the inevitable backlash of people damning those with mental illnesses and personality disorders (more specifically) now.

This surely goes to show how little help is truly offered to those of us in need of it. That is assuming that this guy actually did suffer with a personality disorder, and it isn't just speculation (because all of us psycho's are evil obviously!!)

Keep strong through this though. We've struggled through stigma for God knows how long, and I'm sure we can carry's a case of having to.

I read another article today that people suspect that he had Aspergers... I am just sick of all of the speculation. Truth is we will never understand. It makes me sick how easy it is to get access to firearms but how difficult it is to get the right help for mental illness.
