TWICE.

I have large teeth and a small jaw. My pediatric dentist said when I was 8 that I had to have braces. My teeth weren't even all the way in! They didn't do any extractions, but forced all my teeth into braces and tried to jam them into straightness. I had them on for six years. Needless to say, the moment I got them off, everything started going back to the way it was- no one could even tell I'd ever had braces, my teeth were so crooked and overlapped. So my parents, angry and bitter at the fact that they'd wasted $4000 for nothing, took me to a real orthodontist when I was 18 (my first dentist had claimed he had a degree which he didn't). I had eight teeth extracted all at once- my wisdoms, which had no room to come in, and four bicuspids. Then they put the braces on (white resin- thank goodness!). Various stages have brought new developments- just last month they drilled four micro-implants into my jaw as anchor points for pulling my back molars forward. That hurt. But hopefully by this time next year, they'll be off and my teeth will be free once and for all!
