Mild Bronchietisis From Mac..cough Up Blood Periodically

11 years ago I was diagnosed at 44 with MAC... I never coughed but one morning woke up coughing up blood. I was in the hospital for days. first in isolation then after my bronchoscopy they thought I had TB.. long story short I was treated for MAC for 18 months, and now I am left with mild bronchiectasis. I went for 10 years with no issue,, then last Sept I coughed up more blood. I had an infection in lung.. and yesterday I coughed a little more blood. I don't cough from my bronchiectasis, i just cough up blood.
anyone else exprience this? If so.. how do you stay relaxed. Most of the time I end up in the hospital since I can't stop bringing up the blood. so depressing!!

I am concerned about coughing up blood also. I was diagnosed three yrs ago. I was told if I coughed up blood I needed to go on an antibiotic. Last appt pulmanologist said just use saline neubelizer. Haven't had a bronchoscopy, have no other symptoms. CT shows no masses, but they are not 100% accurate.

About 9 years ago I suffered from multiple pneumonias and had three bronchoscophies. My doctors went back and forth with what they believed I might have; TB, cystic fibrosis, etc. Eventually they narrowed it down to bronchiectasis. It seems my cough is a bit more severe and often than yours but I have coughed up blood many times in the past.
Believe it or not, I have found that giving your lungs time to become less irritated usually stops the blood coming up. For me this means taking a few days off from any physical activity and my physical therapy. Though pt it is meant to clear your lungs it also puts a strain on them and will often further irritate them if you're already coughing up blood. My situation may be different than yours and I'm sorry if this isn't the best advice but still, I wish you the best of luck! Let me know how everything turns out!
