Budd Chiari Syndrome

I was diagnosed with Budd chiari syndrome last august i looked pregnant and all i did was sleep. i went for the tips procedure but they couldn't insert the shunt so they are going to try again. i was just wondering when i have the shunt inserted will there be so much fluid in my stomach.

No- the ascites should go away, it's caused by portal hypertension (high blood pressure in your portal vein). A TIPS relieves this pressure by providing an alternate route for blood flow. I have had a TIPS for 2 years and most of the ascites went away literally overnight. I went from looking 'pregnant' and needing a size 12 to a size 4 within 3 days. Unfortunately I also got my appetite back :) so my size did go back up a bit, but definitely the TIPS has changed my life for the better. Hope that helps. Good luck
