I Have Mild Cp And Am Trying To Conceive.

Hello Friends. My name is Brittany I am 21 years old and have been living with my fiance for about a year and a half. We have talked a lot about children and know that having our own is every important to both of us. I have Spastic CP that really only affects my legs. I walk with fore-arm crutches and wear AMFO's (Articulating Molded Foot Orthotics) on both legs because my ankles are weak. I have sex on a regular basis so the getting pregnant part isn't a problem. I have seen a doctor and all she says is "I have see people worse off the you have happy health children."...not that helpful in my opinion. I know I am going to have to have a C-Section because my pelvis is crooked but I was wondering if there was anyone out there who has had a child by C-Section in my position...if you could give me any insight into the pregnancy and then the delivery. If you would feel more comfortable e-mailing me my email is BMILLER9924@GMAIL.COM!

Thanks so much!
Brittany

Hi Brittany,

I'd just like to say that I've also been told that I will have to have a C Section if I were to have kids, as its a safety measure with a lot of expectant mums with CP. It just eases stress on both of you and makes recovery time with those of us with established pelvic problems (or high chances of developing them due to leg issues) more stable and easier to predict, though maybe not any shorter unfortunately.
Hope that helps!

... my daughter is 6 and has mild cp as well. she has and continues to go through streuous ot twice a week. i landed on this site by accident, but can tell you how my eyes are filled up with tears to know that there are other people out there like my beautiful daughter. life is not easy, and its worse when your given a hand like this but i truly believe its what makes you .. you! my daughter just started 1st grade and the other girls are being so mean to her. they say things like " why do you hold your arm like that" i can't tell you how many times shes sat on the floor and has screamed and cries how she hates her "stupid arm" as a mother, it breaks my heart... but i've got her in all kinds of different dance classes.. her favorite id irish step.. which is know a big deal because she just learned to skip... i look at her and shes my role model. shes a strong little girl, and i thank god he gave her to me!!!!

This brings tears to my eyes, I have Cerebral pasly, but only effected in my left leg. I remember being a little girl in the first grade being asked by other kids why my leg didn't work, I was also bullied, pushed, tripped and everything else... and it truly took a lot of courage and amazing surgeons to fix my leg. Now most people don't even realize I have a slight disability. I'm now a college student working on my AA in child development

Hi Brittany! I have cerebral palsy in my left arm and leg which just makes it hard to use my hand & fingers and I walk with a limp. My husband and I are going to try to concieve this spring, I was already told I'm going to have to have to have a C section due to the fact that my left hip probably won't shift. Good Luck! Keep us posted!

Hi Brittany,
I am 19 and have mild CP (left hemi-plegia). I wish you luck with becoming pregnant! I really want to have kids some day in the future, and I think with mild CP it shouldn't be an issue?

Anyways, good luck and I hope you are successful! xo lola bella

Hi Brittney,

I have mild spastic cerebral palsy and have a happy and healthy 8 year old girl. I was 24 when she was conceived. As you know people with cp have trouble keeping their balance .. I was fine for about 7 months .. but had trouble walking and carrying my own weight near the end of my pregnancy. I had a vaginal birth but skye my daughter was born five weeks early. I think they would have done a c section if i carried her to term. Back pain was really bad at times but a belly brace really helped. Good luck to you and getting pregnant. Remember you've overcome a lot child birth will be a cakewalk! slimbert@telecomcorp.com
