Not a Pretty History.

Okay, so I'm sure that you've all heard of the book Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper, right?  Well, that was based where I live, which is spitting distance from Cooperstown NY.  My uncle has traced my lineage on my mother's side of the family to way back when the French and Indian war happened, and we actually have proof that my ancestors had a considerable amount of land right outside of Cooperstown and ran a farm on it.  They were wealthy back then.  But a little more digging, and I found out that I have ancestors that killed off the majority of the Mohican and Iraquois tribes that were settled in this area.  And I found out this "myth" out, years ago, that people who are born in my county, die in my county.  Now, that doesn't happen ALL the time, but it happens to most.  It's a curse supposedly put on the white men that killed their people and stole their land.  I say I'm doubly cursed, and so is my family.  It's too true for us.  I can't say that I'm proud of that part of my ancestory...I'd much rather be proud of my gypsy ancestory :D
