My Amazing Daughter Misty...living With Deafness

Misty is now 22 and became a licensed pilot at 17. She maintained top grades all through school and was on the swim team and also a cheerleader. She has been a blessing in my life, and we have a very close bond. We talk about almost everything with no shame or embarrassment.

Unfortunately, she became mostly deaf in March 2010 due to a very high fever and illness. She can hear a little but it has to be rather loud. She and I have gained proficiency in American Sing Language (ASL). My son Greg and BF Alex know some, but not as well as her and I. She also can read lips and works at a school for the deaf as a teachers aide.

Amazingly she is still allowed to fly single engine aircraft with restrictions such as not being able to fly where radio use is required.

She watches TV by the use of closed captioning, although it is not perfect.  Or she can use headphones and get along pretty good and not bother others near her. She also drives and is safer than many hearing people.

Despite her impairment she lives on her own and has a very solid relationship with a pleasant young man, whom I adore.

I am so proud of her for being the wonderful woman, and not letting any handicaps slow her down.

I am so happy for her, that she hasn't allowed anything to bug her down, and it is great that she can still give so much of herself to others! Please tell her this for me.

I sure will and thanks for the kind comment
