I had a teacher in 2nd grade notice the scab on my head (I had done the same thing as Gregssis) and I was SO embarrassed! My scalp is the hardest not to pick! I have several places I pick, but that one is the hardest to stop. Also because I do it when I am sitting and not doing something with my hands. Even if other people are around. I used to knit and it helped a lot! I would do that to keep my hands busy during class in college (only one professor ever had a problem with it), actually before that in high school too. And then if watching TV, etc., I would knit. I injured my arms/hands at a job and so it is painful now to knit for any length of time. Maybe other people should try knitting...

I started with the scalp. When I was little I dug a nice little hole in the top of my head and I would peel the scab off of it when I was lonely/bored/nervous/etc. Now that I'm an adult I've moved on to picking at my neck, which is worse because now people can see the bruising and scars.
