Skin Picking Website

Dermatillomania is a disorder which causes a sufferer an overwhelming urge to pick at one’s own skin to the extent that damage is caused.

It is currently defined as an impulse control disorder but there are still questions about how it should be classified. It resembles a habit, an addiction, a tic disorder or obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is being conceptualized as part of a family of "body-focused repetitive behaviors" (BRFBs) along with hair pulling and nail biting. While it does not have its own classification in the current DSM, it shares many traits with hair- pulling disorder, Trichotillomania.

In the DSM 5 revision it will be classified as an obsessive-control disorder. I am the author of "FOREVER MARKED: A Dermatillomania Diary" and am currently working on a documentary to bring about awareness to this disorder. I launched a website this past weekend and need your help to bring this disorder to light, as many sufferers have this disorder but believe that they are alone.

I want to invite all sufferers of this mentally crippling infliction to my website to learn that it is possible of being happy despite it feeling like it's all-consuming. This disorder creates despair and my main goal is to offer resources to these people who may be in a dark place, feeling misunderstood by society, medical professionals, and even themselves.

Thank you so much for your support. I am just another sufferer on a mission to ensure that others don't go through the same things I did with this disorder that almost ended my life.
