Diabetes And Me

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes on January 19-2011. My sugars were way high(in the 500's) and my A1C was 16. I was put on Lantus(that day) and also metformin. After making some diet changes, my sugars are normal (relatively) and my A1C is 5.7. I really like the weight loss that came with the diabetes (30 lbs in 2 weeks) and then another 30 over the next 6-7 months. I was able to stop the Lantus after 4 1/2 months and have been insulin free since then (but know I will be back on it one day)
What I didn't like was the vision changes I got way back then. I could not see anything except what was right in front of my face. That was frustrating as it took MONTHS for my diabetes to get under control and my vision to be ok again. I couldn't drive, I couldn't see the grocery store signs on the aisles, I couldn't read except to hold the book right in front of my nose (lilterally).
Today, things are good. I still am learing new things about diabetes and also the new thing I was diagnosed with 2 months ago(polymyalgia rheumatica) so I am back going to the doctor every 2 weeks for bllod tests (mainly for the polymyalgia...still trying to get that under control).

Is there any advice that you can give me i was recently diagnosied this yr and i started off doing good my blood sugar when i found out was 586 since then i have managed to keep my levels somewhat normal. It is really hard for me to eat healthy with my husband being very picky about what he eats. Any advice would be very helpful.

It is wonderful you are getting better and you no longer have to take medication for your type 2 diabetes.
