My Painful Eczema

Hi all,

I am guessing that if you are reading this story you have searched for this hurtful topic and are unfortunately part of us. Please share your story, your experience; what did help you? What didn’t help you?

Here is my story; we are going back to 1984 when I was a kid and my Eczema “broke out”. I was a kid living up every minute of my childhood, wild and dangerous… beloved and feared… my hands started itching by the elbows, we went to a dermatologist in our area, he diagnosed “Eczema” and with no hesitation prescribed an ointment containing cortisone and that’s when it got ugly. I would apply ointment to the red and inflamed areas to see that area improve but start itching in many more areas than before, slowly I broke out on my face, legs, stomach, back and more…

I remember the mornings when my mother was standing at my bedside and slowly woke me up calming me down not to be afraid that I cannot open my eyes because it was covered with puss and the eyelids were sticking together like crazy glue… my mother applying a warm compress (wet cloth) and stretching my eyelids open slowly, ouch did that hurt!!!

Eyebrows. What’s that? Didn’t have that at the time. I looked like and I became the pity of the classroom…

We went to Allergists, Chiropractors, Dermatologists, we tried everything and everything helped somewhat, so at least I wasn’t constantly walking around with raw skin, I had a few weeks in the year where I can say my Eczema was Milder.

Until we found Dr. Pagano in NJ, he has written a book on how to get rid of psoriasis and he admitted in the first place that he is not sure about Eczema…

We had nothing to loose and we went on to this diet where I was able to drink water and eat water… and for a treat I was allowed to have water… just kidding but it was almost like that, I wasn’t allowed to have most of the foods or drinks, I was limited to a few vegetables, no fruits and only one kind of poultry. This experience was really hard but I must admit that I had 2 years, which my Eczema was completely under control.

To make a short story long… it didn’t keep up for more then 2 years, I guess my body got used to this diet and I started breaking out again.

I have been trying homoeopathy, acknisiology (don’t even know how to spell it) I am still itching away.

One other thing that really worked for me but I wasn’t able to do it for the required time, was going to Tuscan Arizona in the wintertime.

If you can help, then please do. Say what has helped you, what did nothing for you, what harmed you etc.

I, tragically, got eczema when I was just 1 and a half years old. That's not the bad part though. The bad part is, is that it lasted up to 6 years and now it's back again.
I guess as everyone else it effected a lot of my childhood, my life and my family's life.
I was constantly in and out of hospital on treatments and so my mother was rarely home to look after the rest of my 4 siblings, had to complete her degree and had do the cooking, cleaning etc. She was my savior.
I had (and still do have) extremely bad nights of "sleeping". It's more like rolling around in bed because of the itchiness than sleeping. Not to mention that as a child I peed the bed every.single.night. My mum went through hell.
I remember having to sleep with gloves on my hands every night. That sucked.
But up until I turned 16, from when I was 7 and a half, the eczema had disappeared. FREEDOM. But only now do I truly enjoy what I had.
Then, because of a very very cold winter, my skin dried out a lot, especially with everyone blasting their heaters on and dry air just continuously circulating the room. I didn't take much notice but before I knew it, one morning I was standing in front of the mirror in tears at what I saw. Eczema had swiped across my neck, my arms and nearly engulfed my entire left leg, and had began on the right leg. It was raw red, blotchy and horribly dry.
I was never so ashamed of my body before. I definitely felt that I had undone all my mum's hard work from before. I found life really hard to carry on because the eczema had consumed so much of it. Now that I was older I had much more to a social life, much more freedom to go out but eczema had taken that away in a mere month.
A bit further on, it's been hard to re-adjust to the re-spawn of my nemesis, I struggle. And if I'm honest, I spend a lot of nights crying because of it. But I refuse to let it beat me, I want to get rid of it and even if I have to sleep with gloves on my hands, cut my hair short so I spend a lot less time in the shower (ie less time my skin dries out) and constantly moisturize like 3 times a day. I want to beat eczema and not my mum doing all the work, but me.
I want to leave a short message:
KEEP FIGHTING ECZEMA PEOPLE!!
Let's stay positive, even if our eczema hasn't gone, we all know it will one day :P

Hello there.. Here's my story eczema cane from my dads side of the family he has 14 siblings who had tons of kids and only a few got the eczema, but grew out of it sadly I was the only one who didn't grow out of it and as time went by it gotten worst. During my adolescent years it was pretty bad on my joints than disappeared for 2 years probably that time was 14-16 my skin was healthy, glowing, and vibrant. Than all of a sudden I started to itch hands turned red and there came the eczema 2 years on my entire arm it was horrible my arm felt like leather than one day it spread on my entire body literally everywhere I felt as if the eczema was taking over me one of my arms I scratched until it kept oozing blood and the skin got thicker and thicker because of the scratching. My entire hand was open with flesh showing you could imagine the pain of showering with your entire hand open that only lasted for 2 weeks but it took awhile for the thickness to thin down. This worked for me and in still in the process of recovering but it is really really really mild barely there just the scars from scratching. So what worked was that I went to a dermatologist I suggest you get referred to one in a hospital that you think is really good in your area because I got referred to a dermatologist outside of a hospital, but I ended up going to the emergency because my arm was open and I really couldn't take it and I found out the dermatologist in a hospital are much better because most have more facilities to help you. What I got put on was oral medicines instead of the creams that I was using the entire time - various different creams. I had a choice of methotrexate or nerol I think it's called she put me on methotrexate because its much safer than the other one and you can be on it for more than a year. I also did light therapy where you have various different options if light that best suites your skin and you can ask your detmatogolist to refer you if they think its best. So ill just give you a list of things that worked for me I suggest you ask your doctor first and research it too but really methotrexate and light therapy helped me dramatically. My list is 1. Methotrexate 2. Light therapy 3. Lots of moisturizers (extra virgin olive oil is great to use on entire body before showering and as a moisturizer after, vasiline, aveno, baby oil, and currel, dove soap, cetaphil, and putting your lotion in the fridge) 4. Vitamins 5. Water 6. Cool water 7. Humidifier 8. Clean house 9. Wash clothes with non scented 10. Wash blankets there always against your skin 11. No pets 12. Consult a allegorist just to make sure you know what your allergic to 13. Eat healthy hope this helped this is what helped me

Hate eczema with a passion. I'm 17 now and had it since I was born, and all it has done over the years is get worse and worse despite the hundreds of different attempts to stop it. Worst bit of it for me is not being able to wear a t-shirt because of the embarrassment. I dread mornings merely because showers and so painful for me at the moment. The itch literally does not go away.

Recently went to the doctor, was given emulsifying ointment, which someone else has mentioned. It seems to be fairly moisturising and lasts a lot longer than regular moisturisers, however it is extremely greasy and is pretty annoying when I need to do things. Eumovate Ointment was the other thing they gave me, but I'm not having much success with it.

As much as I hate to say it I feel like I'm suffering alone. Parents know its getting worse but they don't know just how bad it is. Often find myself on the internet trying to find new ways to help myself. I might try that omega 3 thing someone else mentioned, I'm curious.

I was cured by two different types of experts: A chinese herbalist who couldn't speak english, and a naturopath and a book called "A healthy skin diet" by Karen Fischer

My doctor also recommended a chemical free, 'blank' moisturiser called emulsifying ointment, or you can use wools alcohol ointment which is just cream ba<x>se. It literally has nothing to irritate your skin bt serves as a nice soothing la<x>yer.

Also - eczema is an immuno disease which means you need to stop your body from overreacting, very often we look at the allergen as our cause of eczema, but we don't see that our body is overacting, inflammation it is called.

Now the solution to stopping inflammation of the skin is Omega 3 which used to be in our diet long before processed foods came along.

Stroll into your local chemist, buy high potency (meaning high DHA and EPA) get the once a day tablets, and believe it or not take 6 a day for about 2-3 weeks, your body would be hungry for this stuff at this point.

Secondly toss out all that pharmaceutical crap and walk into an organic store, ask for paraben free, SLS free shampoo and conditioner and washes.

Next - feel like you're in heaven for the first time.

You seriously cannot go wrong with this solution, its cheap, and it works oh so good.

i hate it! my whole face and neck are red and it looks like im two toned!

Use extra virgin olive oil, use as a lotion for a few days. it is available at any store, use right after your shower, wash off all the soap, then apply freely. you shouldn't be using perfumes or scented fabric softeners on your towels or clothes.

it is so frustrating when nothing relieves eczema,i use sensative washing up gloves and cant touch wet wipes,i have used most creams and i cant find one that i can count on,i use a vitimin e night cream for my face it stung at first.x

My understanding mostly self taught is that eczema is cause by internal problems with the liver and kidneys . For children is that their organs have not matured and for adults may be injuries or infections . I found out that certain foods ,and herbals can help these organs and what they do .
Vegetables and fruit that grow from vines are quite toxic to are bodies . Example : watermelons, squashes, tomatoes, grapes .
Stuff that help these organs are :cabbage , wasabi .

Personal request Try eating wasabi for two weeks and write me the results . About two to three ml per serving twice a day .
wasabi can be purchased at a Asian grocery store . Be sure it is wasabi and not horseradish .
I am using this regiment for about six month on my two year old boy . It has worked very well .
The point I want to note is if it works and you recover and stop the regiment , how long does it take for the eczema to come back if at all .
