Just Recently Started Having Seizures

I had my first grand mal seizure in May of this year (2012). I had the second one in June, and the doctor put me on Keppra. So far, I haven't had another seizure, thank goodness. It scares me to death thinking that I could have one while driving with my kids in the car. Both seizures I had were in the middle of the night while I was asleep. The only thing I remember of them is waking up to the paramedics getting me ready for transport to the hospital. I couldn't remember my name, who my wife was, that I had children, nothing. They said I lost fifteen years or so, but thankfully all that has returned.

The doctors also think I've been having some simple partial seizures for about ten years prior to the two major ones. They believe I have a very mild case of epilepsy, which at first really scared me and my family. After reading some of the messages on here and on other sites, I can see that it is not the end of the world.

Thanks to all who have posted here. Reading your stories has helped me greatly!

Hey Phredd,
I'm sorry to read about your recent diagnosis. It can't be easy with a family. I can't even begin to imagine the fear as well (forgetting 15 years of your life on occasion). wow.

I'm 24 years old and have had focal/complex (just a combo of 2 types of seizures) seizures since i was 3. I have only had 3 generalized seizures my entire life. They all scared the hell out of me.
My seizures are really frequent and are a constant bother to me(every day pretty much) I have at least 1.I don't have a family to take care of though. I have a mother, father and 5 other siblings to look after me luckily.

I too take Keppra 750 mg (if that matters) along with 3 other drugs that are constantly changing because i can't get a handle on my seizures.

You are definitely not alone in your epileptic venture (per say).
Never put yourself down about it and best wishes to you and your family.
