have very dark brown hair and pale skin, and my skin has always been a mess of freckles. I had them everywhere the sun touched, even the soles of my feet. Tanning them away didn't work--I just ended up looking like I had bruises on my cheeks. The other kids weren't shy about telling me how ugly I looked. When my grandfather told me that I looked like I was "eating dirt," I gave up and bleached away the ones on my face (with a commercial "age spot" cream).
I still have the ones all over my body, now that I'm an adult I can't wait for summer to roll around so I can show them off. My ex-husband told me that in Ecuador (where he's from), it's considered very sexy for a woman to have freckles on her decolletage (upper chest area). My son ended up with cute little freckles on the bridge of his nose. So it turned out okay after all.
