Depression is actually a really common side effect of GS. There is some research showing that the low potassium and magnesium has an effect on the neurotransmitters in the brain that lead to depression

I don't like being medicated for depression (I have tried) but it has worked well for my other friends with GS I met in support groups. Also talk therapy really helps.

The most recent thing I did was at the advice of my therapist, write a letter to "my healthy self" and then just destroy the letter. It seemed silly, but it really did give me some closure to say goodbye to the old me and welcome the new me. I have had GS for 5 years and I am still learning to be OK with it :) it's a process but it will get easier

My GS was discovered when i was aged 11 (2003) and as i have got older i have refused to take my medication or i have hidden it from my parents and things, i have had a child in 2011 and since then i havent taken my medication regularly because i feel depressed on these, i am hoping to see a geneticist to discuss my personal case. However i am sick of doctors working off an average persons study- i like to know other peoples personal day to day life with their GS. and how they help themselves (food and what not)

Hi,,I was wondering... do you get you potassium taken regular..I understand your frustration with the meds.. But its can be extremely dangerous to not take the meds if you need them. What were you taken and how much..what was your last potassium level? I think food can help..papayas are highest in potassium..and salmon..but i think it would all be relevent to your levels.. you might have depression..so maybe coming off the meds wont really help, but might put you at risk..and your a new mommy..so be careful..
