I Have Glasses
My eyes have been horrible for years. But I didn't tell my parents until the summer before ninth grade. I was so afraid that I'd look stupid with glasses. I already had a horrible self-image, and didn't want anything to perpetuate it.
I finally told them because I was starting driver's training, and knew that I'd end up failing the eye exam anyway. I also knew I'd need to be able to read the board come high school.
It turned out that I was legally blind in both eyes. My dad almost cried because he felt so bad.
I love my glasses now. I've gotten numerous compliments on them. I've been told that they make me look far more older, and very intelligent. I do like the way they look. I feel empty now when I look into the mirror and am not wearing them
And most importantly of all, I can see. That in itself makes everything alright.
