A Long Long Time

i've worn glasses since i was 18 months old; i'm extremely far-sighted with an astigmatism in each eye.  at that time, they didn't make kid glasses, at least not that small.  so i had these terrible horn-rimmed monstrosities with inch-thick lenses, and they had to wrap the ear pieces around my ears so they didn't fall off my face.  i remember i used to hate my glasses, because they'd make my eyes look HUGE, and the kids at school would pick on me non-stop.  so, i had to come up with some witty comebacks.  i was really excited in junior high when i was able to get soft contacts.  before, they only had the hard ones in my prescription, and i wasn't ready for that at all.  i wore contacts for about 8 years, and recently the eye dr. told me i NEED to wear my glasses, to let my eyes breathe.  apparently, unlike the rest of our bodies, our corneas do not get their oxygen from blood flow - they draw it in from the air in front of them.  so now, i have a pair of "J-Lo" glasses, which just cracks me up.  but, they're the only plastic pair they had that wasn't pretty hideous (even with polycarb, my lenses are still too thick for non-plastic frames).  they're pretty neat though - they're purple on the outside and light blue on the inside, so i don't see damn frame everywhere i look.  and they have viney things etched on the outside so the light blue shows through.  i can see with them, that's all that matters lol.
