Sleep Paralysis

It's happened to me at least 5 or more times. Before my consciousness switches to my subconscious my body begins to feel numb, making it hard for me to wake up again even if I wanted to. And once my subconscious is switched on, my hell comes true. The woman keeping me "bound" is about my age, maybe a year older, and her long black hair covers her face. Sometimes she's on top of me, others she's just "staring" at me and watching me suffer. I can never move, or if I can move, I move so slowly and when I do move I can feel the heavy resistance against my body. My mother always seems to be near by when this is happening, but when I try and scream for help, I either can't or she can't hear me. One time the thing watching over me was a Cerebus (or whatever the three headed dog thing is that guards the gates of Hades)! But what freaks me out the most is where this all takes place. It always takes place in my room, and it looks exactly as it did before I fell asleep. I always wake with a start, but never screaming, since I can't scream or barely talk in my dream. I end up staying up for at least half an hour after an episode like that and I'm exhausted the next day. It's horrible and I only have one person to talk to it about. It scares me so much, and I'm rarely scared of anything, or I rarely show or admit I'm scared of something. But either way, I want to ask if anyone knows what may cause Sleep Paralysis?

That would scare me.
