The Other Side Of History

The Blood-Soaked Cross conquered Western Civilization. Gods were dethroned, images were smashed, history was changed.

A wasteland where camels grazed became a holy land. Crude writings written in barbarous dialects became sacred scriptures. An ill-tempered desert deity became a universal god.

Even more! A failed rebel prophet, who died a demeaning death on a wooden cross, became a holy savior for millions. A simple peasant girl, impregnated under suspicious circumstances, became a holy mother--a blessed virgin. An ignorant fisherman, too cowardly to support his master in a crisis, became an infallible saint who guards the gates of heaven.

The Galilean conquered.

Only now are the scattered remnants of the descendants of the old religions attempting to revive their lost culture.  Asatru, Wicca, paganisms of many kinds have people seeking them out to fill a void in their lives, in their spirits.  The burnings and repressions of 1500 years have caused irrevocable loss of what was primarily a verbal history and replaced the Celtic, Norse, Gaelic and other cultures with the Roman and later Catholic, Protestant and Muslim conquerors.

You can have you hell. Just believing in hell brings it into your life. It effects and controls your actions, behaviors and beliefs. You are most welcome to hell. I have no use for it.

Repent....or you will burn in HELL!!!

The first part seemed a bit angry, but the last paragraph really struck a chord with me. The way that all of the pagans were made to convert through the use of force, violence, and destruction, all of the sacred texts and information of the religion burned, destroyed, forgotten...and also their sacred shrines, and sacred statues and ob<x>jects of is something utterly horrible, equal to genocide, but in a way it is worse because it is farther-reaching. This excludes those who were killed for their beliefs or tortured even. I don't want to hate on Christians and the other middle-eastern religions, however historically they have made repeated violent power grabs and to this day aim to convert everyone to their beliefs, including, "we are correct, everyone else is wrong, we are the only true or real religion and ours is the only true or real god. Any other belief is evil, and the believers of those beliefs should be abused into submission. Only then can we set the world 'right'. Everything we have decided to believe about human rights is god-given because we say so."<br />
It is very, very sad, a tragedy.

You can only search for and find your own answers. Life is a path. It begins and we learn alone the way that one day it will end. The concept of the extinction of the self is as hard to comprehend as the vastness of the universe. It is a scary and awesome thought. Much of religion is trying to find a way around death. A loophole. Some way to be assured that death will be a transition to another life and not the complete end. <br />
I am currently living my religion based on the days I am alive and not trying to bargin my way into an afterlife with required behaviors. I live life and will enjoy the run as long as it lasts.

The belief that some cosmic Jewish zombie can make you live forever if you symboliclly eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-wom,man was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree. <br />
Now that makes perfect sense. <br />
And christians laugh at Mormons and Scientologists.<br />
There is a void when you stop beleiving. We search for another explaination, another answer. Some turn to the "Faith of our Fathers" , or at least our ancestors, for another alternative. Another religion.
