Ear Infections

After having an Academic Diagnostic Evaluation done, I have to have my hearing tested.

What they think happened is that I had so many ear infections as a kid that it damaged my hearing, and there are some tones I can't hear anymore. Whatever that means.

I have noticed it. I didn't know how bad it was, though, to have hearing like this. Basically, I can't distinguish between sounds I hear. What I'm trying to listen to has to be at or above the volume of background sound, or I won't hear it. The higher the background noise volume, the less I'll hear. This is an example:

What my friend said: "My dad either left or came back."
What I heard: "My dad had a drink and went BOOM!"

What I'll hear instead can sometimes be really funny, like that example (that actually happened).

I do hate this problem, though. Constantly asking for people to repeat themselves, or having to guess at what I just head (which I've gotten better at).

My dad doesn't believe I have any hearing loss, he believes that I never clean my ears. He has no reason to believe this and it hurts me because there really is a problem, and he won't believe me. I guess we'll just have to get the hearing test and then hopefully he'll see.
