Tired Of Being Scared

I cannot tell you how all of your stories have made me feel better. For the last month and a half, I have been having frequent palpitations...sometimes every few minutes. Once home from work, if I have a couple glasses of wine they go away. The following day, however, they are back in full force. My mom and husband think I am crazy and think that they are just stress related. Interestingly though, they never get worse when I am actually experiencing more stress. Like many of you, I do suffer from anxiety issues and panic attacks. When my palpitations are very bad, I take my anxiety medication (Xanax) and they do subside a bit. This does support that anxiety is a contributing factor for me.

I have had blood work and ekg's...all of which have come back normal. Today I go and get my event monitor. I just want to know what is causing them. I have a 3 year old son. I live in fear that these constant palpitations will eventually wear on my heart and cause a heart attack.

If nothing else, it is nice to know that I am not alone. I wish you all the best.

You will be okay. I went through this for years with no help, and no one that understood. I was about 24 when they started and it took me until I was 44 years old to find a dr. that could help me. First of all stop the wine. Alcohol actually aggravates palpatations. Xanax never really helped me, just made me sleepy. The BEST anti-anxiety medication out there is Effexor XR. It was a God send for me. And then after getting that under control I found a wonderful cardiologist in the Houston Medical Center, who diagnosed my heart problem. (Which was only annoying-NOT life threatening) He put me on Toprol XL, and I have been healthy and happy ever since.
