Just Found Out

I just found out I have herpes. I never thought it could happen to me, I don't know how it happened really. I feel dirty and sad, i don't know how people will react. I know that I will get through this, but right now i'm just kind of depressed.sad

For me it had seemed like I'd just have to live with constant and long lasting herpes outbreaks, but I lucked upon a website selling hsv-zero and spend the 40 or so bucks on a small bottle of it. It's got calendula and a few other ingredients used in Germany to treat herpes, in a base of dmso, which both treats the herpes virus and dries out the sores. Anyway, for me it can prevent the outbreaks, and if I use it too late it usually only takes about 3 or 4 days until I'm blister free. So now the disease is actually manageable.

I second what brainy said...you will eventually forget you have it, especially once you are in a long-term relationship. You are not defined by herpes any more than you are defined by your blood type. Having herpes can be difficult and frustating and yes, it will occassionally lead to rejection. However, VERY few people can say that they have NEVER had unprotected sex so you are no more "dirty" than the next person! Focus on being a woman/friend/employee/student/mom/sister or whatever it is you are - those are the meaningful roles in our lifes, not "person-with-herpes".

I know how you feel. I just found out I have it too. :( We will both get through this. Look at some support groups online. Just remember your not the only one, and things in life could be worse. Hang in there.

Herpes is actually very common. Most people don't know they have it because they never have outbreaks. There is medication you can take to prevent spreading it to others and to keep from having outbreaks. I am not sure I would tell everybody I had herpes if I found out I had it, only people who I was getting involved with on an intimate level. Like a need to know basis. <br />
And ditto to what Steve said.

I hope that your friends and those close to you will be very understanding of what you are experiencing, and hopefully the depressed feeling won't last too long for you.
