Is It Too Much to Ask?

I'm dating a guy right now, things are perfect and everything is going really great. It has only been 4 months, we have kissed a few times and held each other (PG rated action mostly). I am comfortable with him and want to take things further. I am completely free of all STI's and before we take the next step, I want to know what his status is.

My question to the group is when is it too early to ask if he's been tested? Is it unreasonable to ask to see his test results on paper from the doctor?

I am willing to share my results and have nothing to hide, but I wonder if my reasoning is a bit off. I know that things like herpes are relatively common (1 in 4 Americans) and can be treated by your doctor but I still want to protect myself as much as I can and stay healthy.

I have had friends and read many stories on this website and other places about people being in a monogamous relationship, talking openly about their sexual history and still end up testing positive for STI's. I trust my man's word and do not think he would lie to me, but I still want to see it on paper or hear it from his doctor's mouth. Is this too much to ask?
