Hyperhydrosis Makes Me So Angry

I'm 16 and i suffer from underarm, feet and hand sweating. It effects me everyday and it upsets me every time. I don't think that people who have never had it can understand the emotions and feelings it can create. i am constantly thinking about it, worrying if what i wear will show sweat stains, worrying someone will want to hi five me or hold my hand, and if so what can i say? i used to just try not to care and just act as normal but people are not understanding because they don't understand... why are your hands wet? did you just put water on your hands?

I know literally run away from these situations. I feel contempt towards teenagers who think they have problems e.g. frizzy hair or overweight, things everyone has and similar things that i also deal with but nothing like that compares. I spend so much time looking for cures but nothing. it just renews my horror that there is no cure. i tell my friends everything but not that, how can i it's too embarrassing.

It also effects other aspects e.g. i do art but sometimes my hands sweat so much that i smudge my work and i have to constantly balance my hand so that its not touching the paper. Exams are a nightmare obviously and countless other problems.

i hope that i can relate with people and one day not have to hide my condition but at the moment it's the mane thing in my life and i can't escape

This sounds like me so much, I love art and it does affect the way you paint/draw! I am having flashbacks of what it was like when I was in my darkest time, just know that we are all here for you and we are all going through the same thing. Love you and feel free to message me anytime

There are some things that you can do when it comes to armpit sweating, I would say keep trying different antiperspirants instead of using drysol all the time. I never had the chance to use any of these things because I live in Aus and its hard to get those kind of things over here but, in the US they do have alot of options.

The surgery that I had was called endoscopic laser sweat ablation, and it was quite expensive (around $1200) but it was definitely worth it. I travelled to korea to get this surgery because there was a well known surgeon there, but i've heard of US surgeons doing this procedure as well. This surgery can involve suction (almost like liposuction) and finally laser which removes the hyperactive sweat glands. It really does work and leaves a little 1-2inch scar which is hardly noticeable. It is invasive but only takes about 1-5 days to recover from. I went straight home after my surgery after a few hours at the clinic. Other than that there are measures that you have to take to make sure the area heals well, but it is totally worth it and it's been 2 years and no signs at all of compensatory sweating!!

Do avoid ETS completely, because although it does sound amazing, it can be very harmful for after-surgery symptoms such as compensatory sweating (sweating elsewhere to compensate for the loss of function of the usual armpit/hand/feet sweat glands)

Hey. I know what you're going through. I have HH on my hands and feet. Nothing worked and it had a negative impact on my social life. Like you said: shaking hands, holding hands.. worst things ever. Have you ever tried the Hidrex machine? It's the only thing that's working for me. I bought it a month ago. Yes, it's expensive but for me it was totally worth it. Sweaty hands are gone. They're only warm now, but i'm not afraid to shake hands etc. anymore. I hope you'll find something that works someday. There are options, but most are really expensive. Good luck and take care! Greetings from Holland

I can totally relate luckly I've found 2 friends who share this with me

Here to talk i foyu need it

You'd be suprised how many people suffer from HH (about 3%)

Take a look at SweatHelp.org to find details on the several treatments for hyperhidrosis. You can also use their Physician Finder to locate a nearby dermatologist that can treat you. Have you tried iontophoresis for your hands and feet? RA Fischer Co makes great devices and you can even rent one to see if it will work for you (before deciding to purchase one for at-home use - keep in mind that you do need a prescription from a physician prior to purchase). Believe it or not, Botox is great for excessive underarm sweating. And, you'll probably only need to get the injections once per year (maybe twice) and most insurance companies cover this treatment. You're not alone! There are many people with this condition. Good Luck!
