Its Livable, But Not Enjoyable

My tween and teen years were horrible. I was always embarrassed and insecure. It didn't matter how hot or cold it was, I would sweat. I could be comfortable in class, then feel a trickle run down my side from under my arm. Then once I felt that, I'd get nervous and more insecure making it much worse. Its a never ending cycle. Mine effects the sweat glands that are activated during puberty. Meaning, underarms and pubic region. Which, is very embarrassing for a girl. Its OK when boys sweat, not so much for the girls.
I hid it quite well. My friends and classmates didn't know. I learned at an early age when this started what I could and couldn't wear. What colors were worse etc. I remember when I would go shopping for clothes, I'd quickly lick my fingers to test the fabric at the bottom of the hem. If there was a large contrast in color from the "sweat", it was a no.
I did find out it was genetic. My mother told me my grandfather had it as well. He would wear 3-4 layers of clothes back then to school to hide it.
I usually have to change shirts 2-3 times a day. Its hard to wear nice things. This stupid thing ruins so much of my clothes. I even ruined my wedding dress. Its just so frustrating.
Over the years, I've more come to terms with it. I've found some products that help (cutting sweating down maybe 30%, better than nothing), but its only temporary. I've recently heard that there is now a pill. I am considering seeing my doctor about it. I don't have the money for the procedures that I've read about that stop it immediately.
I just hope that my children don't get it. I don't want them to have to go through what my grandfather and I did.

Thank you for sharing your story. I too suffer from HH. I'm 29 with a 3 year old son, whom also gets sweaty little palms and feet when he plays hard. :( It's always affected my life by keeping me more to myself and not being very socially outgoing. It's just been recently that I've really started looking into more support groups and for medical advice. I have yet to visit a Dermatologist to get an opinion for treatment, but plan on doing so soon. I just wanted to say thank you for being open and sharing & best of luck in finding peace with your condition.
