Even Young Children Can Get Mctd

I was diagnoses with MCTD when I was 9 years old and in 3rd grade. I'm currently 17, I'll be 18 in 8 months and I'm a junior in high school working on getting my CNA certificate. I've been living with MCTD for 8 years.. It took the doctors for ever to diagnose me. Everyone kept saying it was growing pains until they sent me to Children s hospital. We spent the whole day down there and saw at least 5 or more different doctors till they finally sent me to the rheumatology department, and they had told me I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, and Raynaud's disease. It took then a little over 2 or 3 years to get everything under control. I was hospitalized a lot when I was younger and missed a month or more of school each year since then. I finally decided when I hit seventh grade to do cyber school and I had a much better time getting through the year and with my health was a lot better and haven't had any major flares in the past few years. Once I hit 10th grade I wanted to go back to public school , so I slowly got back into the swing of things and had a few ups and downs but I pushed and got through. I'm currently doing half online school and half public school and It works amazing for me. I'm also working on becoming a Certified Nurses Assistant through my local Technical school and will have that in the next few months. I've been flare free for at least 3 or 4 years and I'm very proud and glad they found the right medication for me.

If you interested in know anything else or more about me or my struggle message me.

It wasn't easy as a kid to get through the day when everyone judges them on how much school they miss or if they get special treatment.

I've learned and want to advocate for other kids and teens, even adults about this type of thing.
