In Balance With Arm Prosthesis

I am a woman, 50 years old and I have a congenital reduction defect on my right forearm. When I was 5 years old, I started using a body-powered prosthetic arm. I have used it for 25 years. When I got children I did not use any prosthesis. Unfortunately I was confronted with neck and shoulder complaints when I was 40 years old. This made me decide to start wearing arm prosthesis again. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I was eligible for myoelectric forearm prosthesis. I am very enthusiastic about this arm and I wear this prosthesis all day long, also during exercises.

The problems with my back did not disappear by themselves. To get rid of the complaints I had to do more then just start wearing forearm prosthesis. This has made me decide to write down my experiences. I am free of complaints now and this website describes how I've achieved that. 

What I have done

I ended up with a chiropractor. The chiropractor is a specialist in spinal manipulation. I have been advised in improving posture,  exercises and strength exercises. I followed the advices of the chiropractor and went to work. The first years I had an appointment for chiropractic treatment every month. Right now I visit the chiropractor every other month.

My experience

It has lasted several years before I was free of complaints.  Correcting poor posture takes time. In addition strong back muscles are needed to maintain good posture. Also strengthening these back muscles takes time.
