It is a disease where the body turns against itself for unknown reasons. It attacks the "myelin sheath" which is like the rubber coating on an electric cord. When the myelin sheath starts to disappear, the nerve that it is there to protect starts to malfunction. So it affects your nervous system, your vision, your hearing, your balance, your ability to speak or swallow... anything can go haywire with MS. There are different "forms" of MS, like remittant-recurrent where it comes and goes. Some people have more trouble with it, and some people have less. Some people have their MS simply disappear; that is to say, they stop having symptoms.
